For the last 21 days, my family and I have participated in the LISTERINE® 21 Day Challenge to improve our oral health within by brushing, flossing and using LISTERINE’s ULTRACLEAN twice a day, while helping children in need across America receive oral care through Oral Health America’s “Smiles Across America” Program. We’ve wound up our LISTERINE 21 Day Challenge and it really worked well for our family. So well that we are going to continue with our new habits of brushing, flossing and using an oral rinse twice a day.
By calling it a challenge, my kids really got into it. Tooth brushing, flossing and rinsing became much more important to them, because they thought we were competing to win something (um.. a cleaner mouth!). This coincided with Dental Awareness month at my 7 year old son’s school, which was perfect! A pediatric dentist came to visit his class and my son came home with a tooth care chart that we put up in the bathroom. He now colors in a box every morning and every night when he brushes and seems to really care about his oral health. As I discussed in my previous LISTERINE Challenge posts here and here, the Smart Rinse is his favorite thing to do. He understands I discuss why oral care is important, and he knows that he needs to take care of the new teeth that are coming in, as his baby teeth go out. He FINALLY lost his second top tooth last night and another one was right behind it.
He also loves when I take pictures or videos of him brushing, flossing and using the oral rinse (he’s the son of a blogger and enjoys the camera!). My daughter really had fun with this too (but she hasn’t asked for a chart or for me to keep taking pictures every night of her oral care routine). Check out what she has to say:
For me.. how did I change?
I made sure that flossing and using the oral rinse became a regular, twice a day thing for me. While it did add a little time onto my morning and evening routine, it was completely worth it to have a cleaner mouth. I felt like my mouth was healthier. I was already a brushing fanatic and flosser, but using the oral rinse really made sure my mouth was sparkly and less germy. And at the end of these 21 days, making sure I brushed, flossed and used an oral rinse became something I accomplished twice a day and it’s now a habit.
My husband loved the newfangled flosser that LISTERINE sent and said that “it made flossing so much easier for him”.
