When Your Road Trip Goes Sideways

03/11/2017 by The Mama Maven

As we get into March, thoughts of spring break dance in our heads. Work has been crazy and it seems like my kids have had so much work at school. We need a break, as a family. While we’re still figuring out what we are going to do, a road trip is definitely in the works. Perhaps we’ll go upstate and spend the break at my in-law’s house – my kids get to run around their property and we have a great time. I’m thinking we’ll also take a mini-break at a nearby resort with a waterpark (the kids will be thrilled). My in-laws live in Port Jervis and a lot of the Poconos Resorts are less than an hour away. But as we get ready for spring break, there are things that we need to do – like packing, making sure our car is ship shape, and double-checking that the Good Hands Rescue® App is on my phone, in case we run into any issues on our road trip.

If you remember, I spoke about the Good Hands Rescue® service back in November. The Goods Hands Rescue® service is an on-demand, pay-per-use roadside assistance service accessible both online and via the free mobile app. From flat fixes to jump-starts, drivers can get immediate mobile access to convenient roadside services and pay for them only when you need them. Better yet, the service can be used by anyone, not just Allstate customers! And what I really like is there is a GPS, so they can find your vehicle.

I remember breaking down several times. One memorable time I was traveling back from my college’s winter break (it may have been 1992 or 1993) and I was really worried that my older car was going to break down. My friend and I followed each other back up to college because we were so afraid that one of us was going to break down. It was snowing and my windshield wipers were broken — I had to keep wiping my window. An hour from school, my friend’s car broke down. We didn’t have cell phones back then so we had to leave her car on the side of the road and try to find a phone to get a number for a garage. If I had a smartphone back then, I would tapped on my Good Hands Rescue® app and gotten help from roadside assistance immediately for her.

I live in the Midwest, ifsomeofour travels didnt end up sideways it would be a surprise. We luckily have had AAA for a very long time. Thisis a great app though, and it is nice to remind people to think ahead.
