Sugar Free Hot Cocoa with Cinnamon (4 WW Sp)

We’ve made a lot of changes in our house with food in the last several years and one of them includes using Truvia Natural Sweetener instead of sugar. As you know, my oldest child has Type 1 Diabetes and while we don’t have to really limit sugars (it’s all about the carbs), I feel better limiting added sugars. For me, I have pre-diabetes (Type 2), so I do try to avoid sugar as much as I can. One of our favorite things to enjoy in the winter is hot cocoa and I love making it sugar free by using Truvia Natural Sweetener. Sugar Free Hot Cocoa with Cinnamon is the perfect thing to enjoy in this cold weather. My family always enjoys it and I enjoy knowing that this treat is truly something I can be proud of. If you are following WW (Weight Watchers) it works out to be 4 SP per serving (based on 4 servings).

So let’s talk natural sweeteners. I’ve tried several and unlike other stevia products on the market, Truvia is great-tasting every time. Which is exactly what you want when you are using Truvia to make something sweet.

Benefits of Truvia

  • Naturally sweet from the stevia leaf.
  • Keto-friendly
  • No sugar. No calories. No doubts.

Sugar Free Hot Cocoa with Cinnamon Recipe

This recipe is so easy and based on the popular cocoa brand’s recipe, with some tweaking. I knew that any homemade hot cocoa recipe was going to need Truvia and it was really easy to convert the amount of sugar the recipe called for into Truvia. The recipe called for 1/2 cup of sugar, but in its place I used 2 tablespoons and 4 teaspoons of Truvia. It turned out perfectly and this is my new go-to hot cocoa recipe! While this is not Keto-friendly, if you used unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk, I’m guessing it could be.

Truvia in hands

My youngest child helped me make this (I took over on the stove). When you teach a child to cook you also teach them math and science, so it was terrific teaching him to measure out the ingredients.

Ingredients:

Hot Cocoa Ingredients

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
2 tbsp and 2 tsp Truvia – or use 12 packets of Truvia (or 3 1/2 tsp)
Pinch of salt
Vanilla Extract
Water
4 cups milk of your choice (I used lactose-free fat free milk)
Dash of Cinnamon

Instructions

Measuring Truvia

To a medium saucepan, add Truvia.
Then add cocoa
Add a pinch of salt
Let it come to a boil, stirring as it boils
Add in milk and keep stirring.
Take off heat, add in vanilla extract
Place into cups and add two dashes of cinnamon on top and stir in.
