Review: Smart Ones Frozen Meals by Weight Watchers #WW

10/27/2012 by The Mama Maven

I recently checked out a couple of Weight Watchers’ Smart Ones frozen foods. I am following the Weight Watchers Program.

I tested out the French Toast with Turkey Sausage first. I’ve always liked the Smart Ones Smart Beginnings Breakfasts. I usually buy the ones that are egg based. The French Toast with Turkey Sausage is has a Points Plus value of 7, 280 calories, 8 grams of fat, 2 grams of fiber and 14 grams of protein.

Verdict: I liked it, the french toast (while on the thin side) was tasty and the turkey sausage had a nice, smoky flavor. However, in my opinion, 7 points for a Weight Watchers Breakfast is a lot, so this is something I would only probably have once a week, not as an everyday breakfast. Considering that French Toast and Sausage from Friendly’s Restaurants is 28 points, Smart Ones’ French Toast and Sausage is a MUCH better choice.

I also sampled Smart Ones Ziti with Meatballs and Cheese. This is meant to be a dinner, with a Points Plus value of 10.

Verdict: While I liked it, even with the “bigger portion size”, it didn’t really fill me up. The taste was good, but it wasn’t the best ziti with meatballs and cheese I ever had. However, you could pair it with a garden salad to bulk it up a bit. Considering the homemade or restaurant version of Ziti with Meatballs and Cheese is going to be many, many more points (even in a small portion) the Smart Ones version is the one I’m going to reach for.

I just tried the three Cheese Ziti with Meatballs. The flavorite was really good. There were five dimesize meatballs. Combine all five and it would not make one golfball size meatball!

I really loved the chicken strips and fries and would buy at least 6 boxes at a time. They must have been “improved “ just recently because now I cannot eat the fries at all. The chicken strips have way to much pepper on them but I can still eat them but the fries are not edible. Please go back to the old recipe, I miss the old chicken and strips.

We thought the following were the best meals. Pot Roast, Chicken Fettuccine, Fettuccine Alfredo. All were actually very good. Many others were good as well. We do agree with others that the Turkey and Mashed Potatoes was horrible.

I JUST TRIED THE TURKEY AND THOUGHT FOR ONLY 170 CALORIES IT WAS VERY GOOD. I was left wanting a little more but I am a 50 year old very active mail. THUMBS UP FROM ME.

I bought a couple “slow roasted turkey breast meals and the “garlic-herb mashed potatoes” had lumps which resembled hash brown potatoes – they were gross! I tried to contact them by phone by calling the number on the package (800-762-0228) , but each of the 3x’s I called an automated message replied “office is closed”.
How can I get an answer to my question – What is wrong with the potatoes in this meal?

Hi Diane — I don’t work for Weight Watchers. Please find a way to contact them through their website.

I used to love the Smart Ones Turkey and Mashed potatoes so when I saw the label “improved mashed potatoes” I bought a few packages. The turkey is still good but the mashed potatoes are terrible. The are now a. Unpalatable shade of tan and tasted like I would imagine wet cardboard would taste. Why did you mess with the potatoes? I threw out three remaining packages! 🙁
