Review: Britax Advocate Car Seat

08/23/2014 by The Mama Maven

By new dad Johnathan Waide

10 months have passed since we have been blessed with our beautiful daughter. One reality that has set in is the constant outgrowing of her toys, clothes, and now her car seat.

We were in the market for a better car seat that would protect her as well as grow with her. We were thrilled to review the Britax Advocate Car Seat (price between $232 – $304).

We were very impressed with Britax, which offers the best side-impact protection out of all the current models. While the car seat is pricey, the added security and peace of mind put those concerns to rest. It has almost every possible safety feature that one could imagine in a car seat.

The Britax Advocate is suitable for children weighing between 5 and 65 lbs (provided they are no more than 49 inches tall). It can be used rear facing up from 5 to 40 lbs and forward facing from 20 to 65 lbs. It is recommended keeping children rear facing until they are 2 years of age.

It can be installed in your vehicle either using the adult seat belt , LATCH connectors, or tether attachment.

The Advocate′s key features include:

  • HUGS Chest Pads with Safe Cell Technology
  • True Side Impact Protection
  • Click & Safe Snug Harness Indicator
  • Side Impact Cushion Technology (SICT)

Safe Cell Technology are designed to compress in a crash and manage energy to reduce the amount of impact forces experienced by your child.

True Side Impact Protection provides greater protection against side impact collisions due to the special energy-absorbing foam that is used to line the head restraint. This enables your child’s spine to remain straighter during side impacts, which in turn reduces the risk of injury.

Click & Safe is an audible indicator to help determine when your child’s seat harness is within the appropriate range of “snugness”. It is designed to be used as an additional safety feature as opposed to replacing your own judgment completely in this matter.

Side Impact Cushion Technology (SICT) – comprises energy-management cushions on either side of the seat that reduce side impact collision energy by 45%. The cushions absorb side impact forces before they reach your child, thereby reducing the risk of serious head injuries.

So now that I know this is one of the safest car seats on the market I had another concern. Would my daughter feel comfortable on long journeys in the britax advocate? After a few long car trips I can assure you that this is a non issue. She absolutely loved it. The extra cushioning and high density foam ensure that she would not feel any discomfort and she stayed asleep when we were stuck in bumper to bumper traffic.

The Installation was a breeze. It’s very sturdy and well made. The only flaw that I found with the wide width. If you need to have 3 of these seats in your car they most likely won’t fit. For 3 car seats I would probably recommend something a little more narrow.

Buy the Britax Adovocate on Amazon.

The Advocate is one of the car seats that will get the ClickTight Technology in the next several months.

Thank you to Britax for supplying the Advocate Car Seat for review. As always, our opinions are our own. Affiliate links are in this post.

A friend of mine was recently, unfortunately, in an accident. She credits the Britax for her 2 yr. old’s safety during the crash and was so impressed with their customer service offering a new one. I LOVE this company and used for both kids. Great review.

I’m so glad her son is okay. I am such a fan girl about Britax (I’ve seen the crash test facility). I really trust their products.
