The Reveal of the New Diary of a Wimpy Kid Book (+ Our Day at 6 Flags Great Adventure)!

08/29/2013 by Maytal

by Senior Reviewer Maytal Wichman

My oldest is starting first grade and has been reading chapter books for some time so I’m looking forward to introducing her to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series soon. The newest book in the series – book 8 – is coming out November 5th and has been revealed at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. We took a trip a few weeks ago to see the unveiling of the cover and to spend the day at the park. Here are some highlights plus tips on how to make the most out of your visit:

The new book is titled Hard Luck and, like all the other books in the best-selling series, has been written by Jeff Kinney. You can visit Amazon to pre-order the book. We were excited to find out the new cover. After the reveal we headed into the park.

Six Flags Great Adventure park is located in Jackson, NJ and is about and hour and a half away from Manhattan. It’s a huge theme park with rides and attractions for toddlers, older kids and adults. The kids’ rides are not all in one place, but rather scattered at various areas so we had to plan our day using the map so that we don’t waste time and energy running from one place to another.

TIP: study the map when you get in and plan ahead of time which areas you’d like to go to most. Don’t expect to be able to do everything. There are lots of family rides, but also rides where young kids can go on their own.

We had lunch at one of the cafe’s and it was pretty good, with reasonable prices and decent portions. The kids’ meals came with cute, small lunchboxes that are perfect as sandwich boxes when for packing their school lunches. TIP: you cannot bring outside food (they check) so be prepared to buy your food there.

My kids weren’t familiar with the Loony Tunes characters but fell in love with them as soon as they “met” them. Here is my daughter, dancing with Porky Pig & Sylvester during the Dance Party. The party includes popular group dances such as the Macarena and Gangnam Style.

I was thrilled (and proud) that my kids weren’t scared to go on rides alone!

The shows were a lot of fun and very professional! IMG_3963

The sea lion show was especially memorable (as well as the sea otter show)

We spent the entire day and left after 8pm! We were all exhausted and wished we had the energy to do more. We had an incredible time and made some fun memories!IMG_3870

Visit Six Flags Great Adventure to learn more. And look for the new book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Hard Luck, coming out November 5th!

I was not compensated for this post. I received complimentary tickets.
