The Westin Hotels Eat Well Menu for Kids: Delicious & Healthy Options on Vacation

My family and I have been on three weekend getaways this summer and while my focus is on allowing my kids to enjoy their vacation and letting them have special treats, I know what eating loads of junk food can do to the body and brain of a young child. I found out about Westin Hotels’ new kids menu and was invited with my children for a cooking lesson at the Westin Grand Central in Manhattan. It was a lovely afternoon and a very special experience for my kids – making food they never have made before.

Westin has partnered with SuperChefs, a group of doctors, dentists, dieticians, chefs and other experts dedicated to educating kids on the importance and the fun of eating smart, to create The Westin Eat Well Menu for Kids. The extensive new menu, which has rolled out to properties worldwide, includes eight signature dishes created and tested by kids. One of the items is “build your own fruit crepes”. My kids had fun making crepes and adding fruit to them.crepesCollage

They also had a blast making their own pasta from scratch – something they have never attempted before.

They loved playing with the dough:

The pasta machine was a huge hit:

Other items on the menu are “Build Your Own Salmon Niçoise Salad” and “Baby Spinach & Cheese Omelet”. Also on the menu in early 2015: juices and smoothies – as a result of a partnership with The Juicery. Each menu placemat is complete with games like “word scrambles” for kids to solve while enjoying their meal and educational tidbits on what makes certain foods “super.”

After we left, my kids kept going on and on about their experience making their own pasta – they even got to take some home! I was thrilled to learn about Westin’s Well-Being Movement – a step that establishes Westin as a true pioneer in the approach to the well-being of hotel guests.

I was not compensated for the event. My kids and I participated in a cooking event.
