5 Days of “Lunchable Style” Bento Lunch Ideas for Kids (No Sandwiches)

10/05/2014 by The Mama Maven

Have a child that isn’t a sandwich fan? This post, based on real lunches I’ve made for my youngest child, is for you!

Making “Lunchable Style” is pretty easy. Use silicone cupcake holders to portion out food. Make sure you have protein (I usually use an organic lunch meat and cheese), a grain (cracker, you can use gluten free crackers if you prefer), fresh fruit (or organic applesauce or fruit puree if I don’t have fresh fruit in the house), and yogurt or some kind of healthy snack or two. This was for a 3 year old, who also needed 2 snacks per day — so if you are making lunch for a 5-8 year old, this may be enough food for their lunch. We really try to stick to organic foods whenever possible and limit sugary treats (the tootsie pop for for a special one time treat, I normally would not include that). You can adjust these lunches to make them vegetarian (lose the lunchmeat, double the cheese or offer more hummus), or gluten free.
