You may remember my Bananas for Boobies post last year — https://www.themamamaven.com/2013/10/25/judys-banana-chocolate-chip-loaf/.
Shari Brooks of My Judy the Foodie is a friend. Shari’s blog honors her late mother (Judy) who tragically lost her fight against Breast Cancer over 5 years ago. Shari takes her late mom’s recipes and gives them new life on her blog. In her own words, she went from kitchen-clueless (her words) to a confident cook.
Last October, my blog, along with several other blogs, made Judy’s famous Banana Chocolate Chip Loaf to help raise money for Breast Cancer research. For each time Judy’s Banana Chocolate Chip Loaf is made and a picture was shared, a dollar was donated to the The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). So many women have been touched by this horrible disease, including my mother’s Aunt Ella, who passed away from Breast Cancer in the 1990’s.
This year, things were done a little differently. We got to choose from one of three recipes: Judy’s Pumpkin Brownies, Judy’s Black Bottom Cupcakes, and Judy’s Earthquake Cookies. We chose to make Judy’s Pumpkin Brownies. To confess, I am a good cook (I finally started getting confidence when I was pregnant with my oldest child), but I never became a great baker. I can follow directions on a box or do simple things, but baking it NOT my forte. So I was a little scared to attempt one of the recipes. Since this was for a good cause and we are HUGE pumpkin fans — I figured I would try to make the pumpkin brownies.
This is what happened:
I actually didn’t make it at all. I measured out all the ingredients and let my 6 1/2 year old daughter make it.
With help from her 4 year old brother.
The results were delicious.
Now, we’re not going to give you the recipe, if you want it. Go to the Bake It Happen Website!
How can you help?
1. Bake one (or more!) of Judy’s recipes (which you can get right on the Bake It Happen website
2. Share a picture of your Bake It Happen creation on Facebook using the tag @BakeItHappen or #BakeItHappen You can also email your pictures to ubakeithappen@gmail.com.
