Think Biggerer with Honeycomb Cereal

07/31/2017 by The Mama Maven

This is a sponsored post for Post Cereals. As always, all opinions are my own.

Did your breakfasts growing up include Honeycomb cereal? I’m excited to team up with Honeycomb cereal because classics never go out of style and Honeycomb’s big honey flavor and big crunch make it the perfect breakfast or snack option. Honeycomb combines sweetened corn and unique hexagonal shapes with big honey flavor, making it a staple for kids and cereal lovers nationwide. But for Honeycomb, thinking big is not big enough. Honeycomb asked my family and I to join them in thinking as big as they possibly can, by making breakfast “biggerer” than ever before. I’m going to tell you how we’re doing that in this post. Read on… Think Biggerer with Honeycomb Cereal

This is how breakfast in our house usually works. We decide what we’re serving (usually cereal) and my kids complain and don’t want to eat it. Sound familiar? My kids are super picky and usually everyone wants something different. Even if they’ve picked it out. Frankly, it’s not fun. My kids complain about everything I make. So, we’ve decided to “Think Biggerer” and let them make their own breakfasts from now on. Responsibility is a wonderful thing for kids and I needed to loosen up a little and give them some control. I was a little nervous, but my husband sang the Honeycomb jingle to me and told me that he thought our kids could handle it. My kids are almost 12, 9 1/2, and almost 7, so it’s time to let them own making easy breakfasts. I pulled out Honeycomb cereal, bowls, spoons, milk, and fruit and let THEM make their own breakfast. My contribution was only a couple of fruit smoothies – I can’t let go entirely!

I was nervous that milk was going to go everywhere, but I had to hold my tongue. Luckily they didn’t make a mess. I understand that messes are going to happen with giving kids independence.

You can see from the look on my oldest child’s face that he was totally jazzed with making his own breakfast.

My daughter cut her own banana.

It was a total success.

While my little guy needed help with his cereal (he poured the cereal and I poured the milk), he decided he wanted blueberries and loved adding them himself.Think Biggerer with Honeycomb Cereal #AD | The Mama Maven Blog

Now that we know that our kids can make their own breakfast (mind you, I will still be supervising), it’s time to think where else we can think big. I think chore charts and bigger allowances are in their future. We do ask our kids to do chores, but I admit I’m inconsistent with it. I think a posted chart may be a help.

My kids really enjoyed Honeycomb cereal. Each spoonful of classic Honeycomb cereal is bursting with honey flavor for a “biggerer” breakfast option.

Honeycomb cereal has:

  • Has 8g of whole grain per serving*
  • Is an excellent source of vitamin D
  • Provides 10 essential vitamins and minerals

Ways Kids Can Think Biggerer

  1. Let them make some of their breakfasts and meals – Honeycomb cereal is great for this. If you are nervous for them to pour the milk, pour the milk into a smaller container or cup. Kids can also cut bananas and strawberries with butter knives.
  2. Let them lead the way when you go to local parks and neighborhood haunts– this will pave the way for them to go by themselves in the future. My almost 12-year-old is getting his first tastes of freedom now but I’m not ready for him to start going everywhere by himself.
  3. Kids can do chores — even little ones. Make a list of what your kids can do to help around the house and when they should do it. We do offer allowance for completed chores and tasks. Right now my almost 12-year-old is helping the most, as he wants the money. He cleans up toys and stuff (my almost 7-year-old is pretty destructive), organizes, and vacuums. My 9 1/2-year-old is starting to help and once in a while, my 7-year-old will help.
  4. Thinking Biggerer can almost mean getting muscles bigger. We are trying to motivate our kids to get healthier along with us and we’re teaching them how to workout with YouTube videos and calisthenics.
