AmeriCorps — A Terrific Way to Serve Your Community

06/24/2021 by The Mama Maven

This post is sponsored by AmeriCorps. As always, all opinions are my own.

Are you looking for an amazing volunteer opportunity or know someone who is?
Back when I taught elementary school (in the early 2000’s), we were lucky enough to have a wonderful afterschool program run by AmeriCorps. I worked in an inner-city school and it was a fantastic program to help the kids academically and socially, plus it helped the working parents by providing free onsite childcare.
AmeriCorps is a long-term volunteer program that recruits individuals to serve their communities each year. It’s an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to help strengthen communities. There are so many things you can do – you can mentor students, respond to natural disasters, support veterans, and much more! Put your values into action and make a positive impact in your community by joining more than 270,000 AmeriCorps members and volunteers serving today. You can help by taking on some of America’s toughest challenges and be part of something meaningful. What’s at your core? AmeriCorps is a terrific way to serve your community.

AmeriCorps sends people power and funding to communities across the country. It is a way for people of all ages and backgrounds to dedicate their time and skills to get things done. It’s a terrific way to give back and nowadays so many people are looking for ways to help others.

Approximately 270,000 Americans across the US join AmeriCorps programs each year and all of them are tackling different problems.

Members and volunteers provide support after a natural disaster; fighting the opioid crisis; helping communities respond to and recover from COVID-19 by ensuring students have access to educational resources and strengthening food bank infrastructure – just to name a few.

If you are interested in serving with AmeriCorps, you can apply on their website to find your best fit. There are thousands of partner organizations, and you can narrow down opportunities to different time commitments and duties, so you can serve in whatever way you can to match your goals and your life. It’s definitely a way to give back and make a difference. Plus, you can also get benefits. While it varies by program, there are education awards, supplemental health insurance, loan deferment, and childcare.

By serving in AmeriCorps, you can gain new skillsets and enduring connections. The bedrock principles of service with AmeriCorps are uniting people, leading with powerful solutions, and strengthening communities. In this day and age, those are very powerful reasons to serve with AmeriCorps.
