5 Reasons That Cinderella is Enchanting

03/16/2015 by The Mama Maven

Disney’s new version of Cinderella was just released and we are enchanted with it.

I recently got a sneak peak, courtesy of IMAX. Check out the trailer:

5 Reasons Why Cinderella is Enchanting

1. Classic Story – Did you love the story growing up? You’re going to be pleased with this version. A sweet girl who gets a chance to be the belle of the ball and meet a handsome prince? Done.

2. Lily James as Cinderella. I love Lily James on Downton Abbey as Rose and she is luminous as Cinderella. You can’t hate her for having that lovely, tiny waist. She is perfect as the innocent, warm-hearted Cinderella.

3. The Colors are spectacular. This film is so rich and vibrant. The blue of Cinderella’s ball gown, the dresses that the stepsisters wear, the coach, the footman. Everything is saturated with color and stunning.

3. Helena Bonham Carter. Who’d have thought she’d look great as a blonde? Plus she was hysterical. I’d love to see more of her as the Fairy Godmother. Maybe her own short film?

4. Richard Madden as the Prince. While he prefers to be called Kit by Ella, it’s Robb Stark from Game of Thrones! While he looks much cleaner (and has lost the facial hair), he just shines on screen. And those eyes!

5. Cate Blanchett as the Wicked Stepmother. She is deliciously bad. While we come to understand a little bit about what made her the way she is, she’s definitely the villain in this.

Now, there has been talk that Cinderella isn’t strong like Elsa. I’m going to respectfully disagree on this. Cinderella has always been a certain way and this version is true to that. She isn’t an Anna or an Elsa, she is truly herself. She has her own strength, which is perfect for her. Kenneth Brannagh’s version is beautiful (oh the colors) and heartwarming, and the cast is stellar, which includes Cate Blanchett, Derek Jacobi, Stellan Skarsgård, and Sophie McShera of Downtown Abbey, Galavant.

And make sure you’re on time to see Frozen Fever!

Thank you to IMAX for supplying tickets to a recent screening.

I would disagree that Elsa is strong. If she were really strong, she would have stuck around Arendelle and straighten out her mess right away, instead of running away to hide in the hills.

Anna is the strong one. But don’t be fooled. She still needs a man to get her through the snow and ice to her sister. Even if she does boss him around, she still needs him. If Anna were truly strong, she would have already been a mountain climbing expert, and gotten to the top of that peak without any help except for the companionship of Olaf.

I think Cinderella is stronger than both of them. She wants to preserve the family that her father hobbled together after she lost her mother and will do anything to please her family. She is rewarded because of her good intentions.
