MadPax Backpacks: Stand Out in the Crowd for #BackToSchool

08/28/2013 by The Mama Maven

madpaxCollageI first fell in love with MadPax two years ago when I received their Spiketus Rex Half Pack at MomTrends Back to School Event in 2011. Their backpacks are so unique — fabric dinosaur spikes! Bubbles! Bloks! Recently, MadPax sent me two more backpacks, a Bubble Full Pack ($60) and a Blok Half Pack ($48).

bubblePack

The Bubble Full Pack ($60) is large, so kids, tweens, and even adults will be able to use it. This would be perfect for my almost 8 year old to take to 2nd grade, it would fit a lunch bag & his notebooks and folders. Except, I’m not relinquishing it (it’s going to be used as my laptop backpack. I can also fit my iPad in it, with room to spare and all my cables, chargers). Mama has to have some joy in life, right?

What we liked:

It looks awesome – I get stopped almost every time I take it out. I love the well-padded laptop sleeve right inside (that you can close).

It has three small pockets, two exterior and one interior. If you have to carry a lot of loose things like pencils, erasers, scissors – get a pencil case or pouch.

What we didn’t like:

The pack is heavy when I have too many devices inside (like my laptop and my iPad, plus chargers, plugs, etc), but ANY backpack is going to be heavy with a whole lot of tech in it. If possible, take only 1 big tech device if you have to carry it a long way. I can tote the Bubble Pack around all day if I have either my laptop or iPad inside.

For my toddler, who just started full time school this July, we reviewed the Bloks Half Pack ($48). It was perfect for holding his Packit Lunch Bag (he has the larger size) and still had room for a notebook and a change of clothes. It was larger than the Spiketus Rex Half Pack we have.

What we liked:

The Blok Half Pack ($48) is really cool. Plus, it’s durable and easy to clean. We have the dark blue one and it’s perfect for active kids. Any little LEGO lover is going to go crazy over it. I found it ideal to pack my toddler’s camp lunch (in his Packit Lunch Bag), with a notebook and a change of clothes inside. The smaller size makes it perfect for preschool students up to kindergartners. This is also a great weekend backpack for kids – they can throw their toys and tech devices in. I’ve even used it as a diaper bag!

What we didn’t like:

We would have liked some more interior pockets! Other than that, we were really pleased with the Blok Half Pack. And my toddler is crazy about it!

Thank you to MadPax for supplying these two awesome packs for review purposes. But beware, you are going to be stopped by people constantly, asking about it. I met the owner, Tina, at a NYC event after I had received these for review– what a doll! Meet founder and owner Tina in our video here: http://youtu.be/NNuIJg5DgPc?t=4m47s
