Fun & Games With Wonder Box!

06/20/2012 by Maytal

by Contributing Blogger Maytal Wichman

When you’re stuck at home on a rainy day or when it’s 90 degrees outside and you need a break, don’t you ever feel like you want to pull something out a hat – something that will keep your kids occupied and give you a chance to relax? Wonder Box is a monthly subscription service of activities for kids from Education.com. Not only is this perfect for a day spent indoors, you can also take this box with you on vacation, a plane ride, a cruise, or even when you’re visiting friends who don’t have children and you want to keep your kids occupied. (Read more after the jump)

Here’s how it works: once a month you get a box with activities that are related to a certain theme. The box also comes with a list that contains a short description of the activities, plus a list of skills it helps develop. It is made for kids ages 3-6 and all activities are geared for both boys and girls.

We recently received a Wonder Box for review. Our box came with a bag that contains everything you need to make a puppet. This develops fine motor skills, creativity, story telling and social and emotional development. My 5-year-old daughter had fun making the puppet and needed very little guidance.

Another great activity was a satin story cape which comes with fabric crayons and both my 3-year-old and 5-year-old loved coloring the cloth side. This develops fine motor skills, creativity, dramatic play and creative problem solving.

My kids also had a blast playing with story cards. These are simply cards with cute drawings. The kids lay them face up on the table and use them one by one to tell a story together. My eldest figured it out immediately but my youngest took a little time understanding the concept, naturally. This develops vocabulary, story sequencing, comprehension, and cooperative play.

Other activities were a story book that the kids can color inside and a soup recipe to make together. The website has more ideas for this theme, such as how to transform the box into a puppet theater. My kids were simply delighted with all of the activities and it is clear the activities were chose by professionals who know a thing or two about what makes kids happy.

The best thing about Wonder Box is that everything you need is inside. All you have to bring is your camera to capture the memories!

You can purchase a 3-month plan for $58.99, and receive a bonus gift or you can buy a monthly plan for $19.99 per month. Shipping is always free and you can cancel anytime. Click here to purchase.

I was not paid for this post. I did receive a sample box for review purposes.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature as well as a Law Degree, but writing about nutrition and helping families eat better is her true passion. She grew up in both California and Israel, which explains her love for California cuisine (fresh, local ingredients), as well as Mediterranean food (flavorful, heart-healthy ingredients). Maytal is a stay-at-home mom to two kids (ages 5 & 3) and works hard to ensure they eat healthy, unprocessed food, while trying to make it as delicious as possible. Married to a vegetarian and being a pescetarian herself, this can be quite a challenge. On an ordinary night at her dinner table, you can hear things like “More cauliflower, please!”, “How come I didn’t get a lot of tomato?” and “Fish oil! Yaaaay!”
