Long Island Love: Fishing Day Trip on the Laura Lee out of Captree State Park

07/14/2012 by Julie T.

If you are on Long Island and want to go on a 4 hour fishing trip, the Laura Lee out of Captree is a great boat to go on an outing. The Laura Lee has been Fishing Captree State Park Long Island New York since 1975! Tickets are available to purchase online (with a $3.00 coupon) or you can purchase them by paying at the dock. Cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and Amex are accepted. (Read more after the jump).

The boat goes on numerous trips during the day: 7AM, 1PM, 6PM and overnight trips too. Trips are occasional canceled due to severe weather. This is most likely to occur during the first or last month of the season. If the weather is questionable, please call to confirm sailing. Office: 631-661-1867 **Please arrive at least 20 minutes before sailing time. Trips that are SOLD OUT may depart 15 minutes early. For Saturday and Sunday 1 pm trips in the summer allow an extra 30 minutes for possible beach traffic. The boat departs promptly so be on time!My 10 year old son, 6 1/2 year old daughter, 5  1/2 year old son and I went on the 1 pm trip fishing for Fluke. There are 2 “pools” to enter for the biggest fish; fileting is available for all “keeper” fish. There is a strict length that a fish must be in order to keep it. I caught 2 keepers and my daughter caught 1 and she was so excited. Her picture got taken to be put on the Laura Lee Facebook page. There were a number of kids on board for this trip and they all had a blast. My boys weren’t so lucky catching the fish, but they had a ball throwing the non-keepers back into the water.

The Laura Lee is 72 ft. Coast Guard licensed boat for 128 passengers. There 165 Coast Guard Inspected life jackets available. They provide all rods, bait & tackle; 92 rod holders are evenly spaced throughout the boat.

You may bring a cooler with your own drinks and snacks, but drinks and snacks are also available for purchase on board. In the cabin there are tables and benches to eat. There are 2 bathrooms aboard (one for males, the other for females).

*Don’t forget to have some extra cash to tip the crew at the end of the trip because they work hard throughout the whole trip, will show you how to bait your hook, with take your fish off the hook, will filet any keeper fish and will untangle any knots on your rod.

We highly recommend this boat for a fishing outing on Long Island.
