One of my favorite Jewish recipes, besides Matzoh Balls, is Charoset (pronounced Har-Ro-SEAS). Some may even call is Charoses. It’s basically chopped apples, walnuts, and a little wine (Manischewitz Concord Grape Wine, of course) or grape juice. While I’m not a big wine person, but Manischewitz Wine is de rigueur on Passover. At least one bottle should be on your seder table! But if you can’t get wine, grape juice will work as well. You’re not adding very much to the Charoset, so don’t worry about getting tipsy from eating it (and yes, a little wine in it won’t hurt the kids). And this is no cook, naturally gluten free, and vegetarian. Enjoy this charoset recipe for Passover!

As for apples. Gala, Empire, or Macintosh should work well. You want a firm apple that will work well when diced. I use walnuts, but you can experiment and try another kind of nut if you want.
I also add cinnamon, but feel free to experiment with this recipe and add chopped dates, coconut, or anything else that your family will like. Sephardic Jews make it with chopped dates and bananas – but I grew up Ashkanazi and do apples, walnuts and wine. However my husband’s family adds cinnamon. I now add cinnamon as well. You can choose to use a food processor, a cutting board and knife, or grab your grandmother’s old stainless steel chopper and a wooden bowl. I found something on Amazon that may work if you want the chopper and wooden bowl.
