Vicks Behind the Ear Thermometer: The Perfect Solution for Squirmy Children!

When my kids are sick, being cranky usually comes with the territory. Having to have their temperature taken exacerbates their level of crankiness and causes them to be squirmy and uncooperative, which makes taking their temperature downright impossible. Think about it: when you’re sick and feeling awful, would you want touched, probed and prodded?

Luckily, Vicks came out with a thermometer that not only takes virtually one second to measure temperature, but also requires no physical contact whatsoever: The Behind The Ear Gentle Touch Thermometer. All you have to do is put it behind the ear, right next to the skin (but not touching it), press a button and you’re done. By the time your kid realizes what has happened, you already have the temperature.

If you’re wondering how it’s possible to get an accurate temperature reading without touching the skin, here’s how it works: the skin area behind the earlobe is over a branch of the cartoid artery (which carries blood to the brain). Using a mathematical algorithm, the thermometer estimates the internal body temperature by calculating heat flow through the skin.

One thing I love about the thermometer is that it’s so easy to take your kid’s temperature while she is sleeping – no need to wake her up! There’s also a cool memory feature that allows you to store the last 8 readings, which can be convenient if you need to tell the pediatrician.

You can purchase the thermometer at local pharmacies, such as CVS, RiteAid and Walgreens, as well as on Amazon.com for $45.92.

I was not paid for this post. I received a sample for review.
