Game Day. Give Back. Football with Fundraising for St. Jude’s

02/02/2012 by The Mama Maven

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know the Super Bowl is Sunday Night. While I’m not the biggest football fan, my husband and his father are.

So, why not combine that with fundraising for St. Jude? They’ve got a program called Game Day, Give Back. You can sign up here. Tell all your guests that you’ll be taking donations for St. Jude to help save the lives of children with cancer and other deadly diseases.

As a host you’ll receive:

  • a personal fundraising page where your guests can donate (even by credit card)
  • special e-vites and RSVPs to get your guests ready for the big game
  • awesome recipes from Hungry-Girl.com to keep your guests well-fed
  • party planning tips and more

You can sign up here.

And St. Jude provided us with some recipes!

Max’s Miracle Mix

1 cup of miniature pretzel sticks or pretzel twist
1 cup of any type of whole grain cereal
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup dried cranberries or other type of dried fruit
1/2 cup chocolate candy pieces (or you can switch out with a peanut butter version)
1/4 cup unsalted sunflower seeds or nuts

Mix all ingredients together and enjoy!

Christian’s Touchdown Party Pizzas

1 package whole wheat pita pockets
1 can pizza sauce

8 oz. bag of mozzarella cheese
1 package mini pepperonis
Any of your family’s favorite toppings
olive oil

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lay all ingredients out to set up a make your own pizza station that will allow everyone to get involved! Slice pita pockets in half so that you have two flat discs. Sprinkle with olive oil. Spread sauce on both halves and sprinkle with cheese and pepperonis. *You can also add a variety of your favorite veggies. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges look slightly crispy and cheese is bubbly. Remove from oven and cut into fourths for a bite-sized healthy appetizer that will have everyone yelling Touchdown! Pepperoni and cheese pizzas were the favorite of the St. Jude patients at the pizza bar during a St. Jude Game Day. Give Back party at the hospital.

Cocoa Loco Krispymallow Treats

Ingredients:

3 tbsp. light whipped butter or light buttery spread (like Brummel & Brown®)
3 cups mini marshmallows
3 cups Chocolate Cheerios® cereal
3 cups puffed wheat cereal
1 1/2 cups FiberOne® Original bran cereal
One 1.53-oz. package Reese’s Pieces® candy, lightly crushed
One 1.69-oz. package Milk Chocolate M&M’s® candy, lightly crushed

Directions:

Spray a 9-inch by 13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray. (Despite use of the pan, you won’t actually be baking.) Set aside.

Place butter in a large pot/saucepan on the stove, and set heat to low. Once butter has melted, add marshmallows and stir until those are completely melted as well. (This may take a while, but it’s worth it!) Remove from heat, add all three cereals, and stir gently until thoroughly coated.

Using a spatula sprayed with nonstick spray, press mixture evenly into the baking pan. If needed, lay a sheet of wax paper flat over the mixture, and press until the surface is even; then remove. Sprinkle both types of crushed candy evenly over the top, and press down with the spatula. Let cool completely.

Cut into 15 pieces (each about 3 inches by 2 1/2 inches) and EAT!

MAKES 15 SERVINGS – PER SERVING (1 treat, about 3″ X 2.5″): 122 calories, 2.75g fat, 99mg sodium, 25.5g carbs, 3.5g fiber, 12g sugars, 1.5g protein

You can sign up here for Game Day, Give Back.
