Desert Essence Organics Baby Care: All-Natural Products for Your Little One

04/08/2013 by Maytal

by Senior Reviewer Maytal Wichman

As a mom of three, I learn – and am still learning – as I go. Through the years I have realized how certain ingredients affect our bodies and I am now a lot more aware of what goes in and on my kids’ bodies. I have become very choosy about what they eat and what they put on their skin so I am always on the lookout for all-natural products for kids. Desert Essence, a company that has been making all-natural personal care products since 1978 has a fantastic line of organic baby care products called “Desert Essence Organics Baby Care” that I recently got a chance to try out. (Read more after the jump)

The Desert Essence Organics Baby Care line carries items that are made of 12 ingredients or less, all of which are certified under USDA or NSF Organic standard and are hypoallergenic. They are free of phthalates, sodium Lauryl, parabens and other harsh and possibly dangerous ingredients. I recently received for review the “Oh So Clean” Gentle Foaming Hair & Body Cleanser and the “My Sweetie Pie” Baby Lotion. The cleanser is made of olive oil castile soap, which is a natural moisturizer. It also has other organic ingredients such as coconut oil, orange peel oil, sunflower seed oil and aloe. My six-month-old’s skin felt very soft after the wash but I was curious if it could soften an adult skin so I tried it on myself and loved it! While the strong olive scent is not my favorite (I admit, I prefer the chemically-laden fake scents) I could not believe how soft my skin felt afterwards! I hope my son doesn’t mind if I borrow his soap once in a while…

I also tried the baby lotion. This one smelled a lot better than the wash – a little bit like citrus – and absorbed immediately. It contains aloe, shea butter and jojoba, as well as orange peel oil and honeysuckle flower extract, which probably explain the pleasant scent.

What I love about all of the Desert Essence products is that they are so affordable so you can feel good about what you put on your kids’ bodies and also be able to get more than just one product.

Look for other organic items from the Desert Essence Organic line.
