Review: Otterbox Defender Series for iPad

I’ve learned the hard way to protect my tech gadgets; my first iPhone 4S was run over two days after I first got it in November of 2011 (after it fell out of my purse into the street). After I replaced it, I wanted to make sure my new iPhone was protected. Everyone told me to check out Otterbox.
I got an iPad this fall. I ended up using one of these leather cases, with a bluetooth keyboard. It looked great, but didn’t protect it that well (I discovered a nick on one of the edges of my beautiful iPad). Plus, I NEVER used the keyboard. I just upgraded to Otterbox’s Defender Series Case for iPad and couldn’t be happier.

Is it heavier than my fancy little leather case? Yes. But there’s an optional stand you can take with you, that I was able to snap onto the front of the iPad, meaning that it was totally protected.

How does it work? The inner shell of the iPad 3 case is made of high-impact polycarbonate and includes a foam interior that delivers added shock absorption and protects your iPad from scratches.

I love that it’s got a built-in screen protector (which seems to be standard on Otterbox cases), which prevents scratches, smudges and fingerprints from getting on your screen.

My favorite feature was the integrated shield stand, which can act as a protective cover on the front or the back and doubles as a stand for typing or viewing. The shield stand does add more weight to the iPad, but I really liked the way it protected my iPad.
