Review: Alex Toys Kid Concotions Mix’n Blast Volcano Play Set

I pulled out something fun to engage my kids — ALEX Toys’ Kid Concotions Mix’n Blast Volcano Play Set ($13.95).

It comes with a yellow plastic tray, activation powders, a scooper, “black slime”, googly eyes, a empty plastic syringe, and plastic dinosaurs. The directions are super clear and easy to understand with illustrations (even if your child isn’t a great reader, they’ll understand what to do). (Read more after the jump).

The kit comes with everything you need to make the volcano erupt. Which was great, because I didn’t have to go searching for any supplies. The yellow plastic “volcano” tray is smaller than I would have expected, but based on the size of the box, it would have to be on the smaller size.

Included is two packets of powders (one is white, one is a pinky-orange color), a green scooper, an empty syringe, a packet of “black slime”, 3 plastic dinosaurs, and a package of googly eyes.

First we opened the two powders.

Take a 1:1 ratio of each powder, place in the well of the “volcano” on the yellow plastic tray and add water from the syringe. See what happens!

Cool reaction right?

My kids loved playing with this. The age range is for 6 and up, but my 7 year old and 4 year old really enjoyed this (but I had to help them). We were able to make a lot of volcanic eruptions and they kept on playing. After a while I cleaned out the colored water and filled it with clear water and let them play with the dinosaurs.

Verdict: This is a fun activity for kids, especially science fans like mine.
