A Day in the Poconos + Leaf Print Craft

10/18/2014 by The Mama Maven

My inlaws have a house near Port Jervis, in upstate NY, so we go up there often. Recently, when we were upstate, we took a ride to see my friend Carolyn and her parents, Jean Pierre and Cathrina. They live 45 minutes away from my inlaws, in Dingman’s Ferry, which is in the Poconos Mountains in Pennsylvania. We drove through the nearest town of Milford, Pennsylvania.

We had a beautiful afternoon. Cathrina served grilled chicken, a delicious salad, and scrumptious baked macaroni and cheese. Followed by brownies for dessert.

Carolyn took my kids on a Treasure Hunt for Leaves that Cathrina prepared.

If you want to make your own, Cathrina took pictures from google images and made a quick guide in Word.

After they found their bounty. Cathrina, who is an artist, taught my kids to make leaf prints,  dipping leaves into washable paint and then stamping them onto paper.

Carolyn also made leaf prints.

This activity was a huge hit. “B”, who was 1 day away from turning 9, just beamed.

It’s amazing how much my two older ones loved this fun painting idea.

To make these leaf prints, simply dip the leaf in paint and then stamp on your paper. The activity is going to be messy, so make sure you use washable paints that will come off very easily and cover your table so you don’t get paint everywhere. We did this activity on their deck and made the kids rinse their hands outside in a large bucket to clean the paint off.
