Review: Joovy BabaSling – Amazing BabyWearing

08/01/2012 by The Mama Maven

By Contributing Blogger Jamie Feder

Note: The BabaSling is no longer being sold by Joovy — we recommend the Ergobaby with the cool mesh infant insert.

My four-month old Miranda is getting too heavy to carry around in the car seat and sometimes the stroller is simply too big or bulky to get around in stores. The BabaSling (price range $99 – $119), distributed in America by Joovy, is the perfect solution! I can now take her anywhere with The BabaSling. (Read more after the jump).

The BabaSling can be used from the time a child is born until he or she is two years old (or 33 pounds). I can wear The BabaSling six different ways: “Easy Tiger,” “Sleeping Tiger,” “Koala Cuddle,” “Little Joey,” “Side Saddle,” as well as a position for discreet breast feeding. Each position creates a cozy, hammock-like pouch for Miranda to lie in. The positions are outlined and diagrammed in the easy to follow Instruction Booklet. The booklet also discusses what ages work best for each position. The “Koala Cuddle,” for example, mimics how a mother Koala bear would hold her cub and is best for newborns. On the other hand, “Little Joey” is best for a baby that is three months or older.

First off – the sling is really comfortable. The shoulder cushion contains extra padding and the sling goes across my body to redistribute Miranda’s weight. This really helps to alleviate the burden on my back and shoulders. For added comfort and safety, it has adjustable straps and buckles for both parent and child.

The BabaSling also provides additional opportunities for parent and child to bond. It gives the baby additional stimulation and security by being held close to his or her parent for an extended period of time.

Miranda and I already love the “Side Saddle” position. It takes the stress off my back and gives her a more extensive field of vision as we walk. I love having my daughter so close to me and I’m looking forward to “wearing” her in the future.

Editor’s note: Like all babywearing or baby items, use correctly and READ instructions (and watch a video if you need to) to make sure you know what to do. A baby sling or carrier, used properly, is absolutely safe for your child.

Thank you to Joovy for sending a sample BabaSling for review purposes. This post contains affiliate links.
