Healthy Sandwich Spread Ideas: Pic’s Peanut Butter and Three Peaks Manuka Honey

06/13/2018 by Maytal

School’s out – summer camp is in! My kids will be going to a day camp through the end of July and I will be packing lunches. Their day camp is mostly outdoors in the woods and they will need lots of nutritious food to keep them going as they swim in the lake, go on nature hikes and paddle their canoes. I found two delicious spreads that are great for sandwiches and also make great dips with apples: peanut butter and honey! Healthy Sandwich Spread Ideas: Pic’s Peanut Butter and Three Peaks Manuka Honey

My daughter and I are big fans of peanut butter. I stir it into my oatmeal for added protein while she usually has it on crackers or in a sandwich. I received a jar of Pic’s Peanut Butter for review. Apparently, not all peanuts are created equal. The peanuts in Pic’s Peanut Butter are grown in Australia and are hi-oleic, which means they contain a higher amount of oleic acid compared to standard peanuts. Oleic acid has two important properties: it’s healthier for you, as it reduces bad cholesterol (LDL) and raised good cholesterol (HDL). It’s also less likely to go rancid and can last eight times longer than regular peanuts. Most peanut butters will oxidize and become rancid by the time they hit the shelves at the store.

We sampled the creamy version and it was absolutely delicious. You can really taste the peanuts – so fresh! The peanut butter also comes in convenient pouches called slugs. Each slug is 190 calories and is perfect as a snack on-the-go with some celery or baby carrots. Available next month!
You can find Pic’s Peanut Butter on Amazon.

If you haven’t yet gotten on the manuka honey bandwagon it’s time to read up! Manuka honey has so many proven health benefits, such as improving your digestive system, promoting oral health and helping to prevent gastric ulcers. Three Peaks Manuka Honey comes from Parihauhau Station, which is a hilly region in New Zealand. Manuka trees are abundant in this region and the local bees drink the nectar of the flower while it’s in bloom. As this specific nectar is the bees’ primary food source, the purity of manuka honey is ensured.

Three Peaks offers a variety of Manuka honey jars, all rated in a UMF rating (Unique Manuka Factor). The range is between UMF 6+ ($64) – UMF 20 ($269). You can also get a blend. I received Manuka honey blend ($27) for review. It had a rich flavor with a little caramel aftertaste, which I loved. Perfect on a slice of whole-wheat bread! NOTE: Do not give honey to babies under one.

Three Peaks Manuka Honey is also available on Amazon.

I was not compensated for this post. I received samples. This post contains affiliate links.
