No holiday season is complete without a live performance of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. The catchy, vibrant music and the dancing candy and desserts make it perfect for children. Dances Patrelle is holding its 18th annual production of The Yorkville Nutcracker, choreographed by Francis Patrelle, which you won’t want to miss!EPP_0974aThe ballet features two professional dancers from the New York City Ballet, as well as some 100 young dancers from around the NYC area. I saw last year’s performance and was so impressed – not just by the professional dancers, but also by the younger ballet students who are incredibly talented and bring a rare quality to the production. You could tell some of the older students are on the verge of a professional career. The smaller kids were beyond adorable and it makes perfect sense to have them on stage – it is a ballet about kids and for kids; why shouldn’t it be by kids?EPP_0826aThe company presents the 18th annual production of choreographer Francis Patrelle’s unique rendition of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s holiday classic The Nutcracker. Set in 1895, The Yorkville Nutcracker takes the audience on an action-packed tour of Olde New York’s most beloved landmarks, including a holiday party at Gracie Mansion, dancing at the Crystal Palace in the New York Botanical Garden, and skating in Central Park.  Lavish sets and costumes, enchanting music and beautiful dancers from ages 5 to 65 complete this thrilling production, with New York City Ballet principals Jenifer Ringer and Jared Angle as the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier.  Matthew Dibble, a soloist in Royal Ballet who performed on Broadway in Twyla Tharp’s Come Fly Away, will join the show as the Snow Boy.
