**Giveaway is closed! Cindy S. was the winner.**
We’ve been slow to get on the streaming video train. We don’t Netflix or HuluPlus… etc.. We’ve tried to watch things on my laptop, but found the sound and the small screen lacking. Plus, it’s hard to download a movie and curl up to watch it comfortably with a laptop. But I was okay with that, until I recently went to an event sponsored by Western Digital and saw what I was missing. I am in LOVE with WD TV Live Streaming Media player ($129). We’re testing it out now and I’m in heaven!
We can watch my my YouTube Channel (shameless plug), I’ll be able to watch Netflix (if we decide to add it), plus HuluPlus, YouTube Videos, facebook, Picasa Albums, and even movies I’ve legally downloaded. Everything I can watch on my laptop when I’m surfing the net, can now be watched on my big screen tv!
We were able to set the WD TV Live easily. My husband hooked it up quickly and we logged onto our wireless signal. But connecting to my laptop was harder. I called the nice folks at Western Digital’s Customer Service and we figured the easiest way to set it up was with my new My Book Live ($199) — which is Western Digital’s Personal Cloud Storage, that sits right next to my router. (Disclosure: I also use SugarSync to handle my online backups and also use their cloud service on my iPhone). As a person who lost ever file and picture that was on my laptop, when it died in 2009, I know that having backups of my files is crucial. Setting up the My Book Live was simple also, just plug it in and attach it to your router, with the included cable. The only con with My Book Live is that it was another electronic device I had to plug in.
Downloads go so much quicker with my new Western Digital Router, My Net N900 Dual Band Router ($179). It’s also wonderful for watching streaming content on my WD TV Live Streaming Media Player. I’ve set up several wireless routers in the past (even recently in January) and this one was the easiest to set up. I hooked it up, put in the CD and it walked me through the set up.
