Once in a while you need a good steak. Applebee’s invited us to experience their $9.99 steak dinner dining experience. Since we are fans of Applebee’s and we know our steak, my husband and I were happy to take this challenge.
We brought our family to Applebee’s on a Saturday night in Jamaica Estates, NYC. And there was parking – a rarity in Queens. We didn’t get there until 6:30 and there was a 20 minute wait. Which was totally normal for any weekend night. Glad we had Netflix streaming on the phone!
We were seated and a young man named David took care of us. We were seated right near the bar and David was very attentive. He put our children’s orders in before ours (at our request) and was very patient and encouraging to our three children. He had a ready smile and really strived to take excellent care of us.
Our weekends are a time to relax, so we were thrilled to just chill with our kids and talk.
I decided to go wild and have a virgin Strawberry Daquiri (since I thought I was going to drive home)
My husband got the wood-fired USDA Choice Top Sirloin steak and two sides for just $9.99. His steak was 6 oz and ended up being the perfect size for him. For his sides, he had steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked just the way my husband asked and he really enjoyed his mashed potatoes and broccoli. Win – win!
The $9.99 Steak promotion included a 6 oz steak and then you got to pick 2 Classic sides.
- New Crispy Cheddar Bacon Potatoes
- New Garlicky Green Beans
- New Hearty Grains and Rice
- BBQ Spiced or Classic Fries
- Steamed Broccoli
- Baked Potato
- Garlic Mashed Potatoes
- Top off your baked or mashed potatoes ($1.79)
I decided to take advantage of the $9.99 Steak Promotion also, but I decided to upgrade my sides for 1.29 more for each side. I chose the Fire-roasted Veggies and the Maple Pecan Mashed Sweet Potatoes – so my total entree was $13.97 (which was still so reasonable for a steak dinner).
Sides (for an additional $1.29 each)
- New Fire Grilled Veggies
- New Maple Pecan Mashed Sweet Potatoes
- Garlic or Sweet Potato Fries
- 4 Cheese Mac and Cheese
So, how did the steak taste? Delicious! I loved the wood-fired grill taste. It really was flavored well and tasted like a more expensive cut. I asked for it to be cooked a medium- well done (I do not like a lot of pink inside, just a little). I also liked the 6 oz portion size. With the two sides and the steak I was full, but I knew I still had room for dessert. The fire-roasted veggies were flavorful and the pieces of zucchini and yellow squash were grilled perfectly and very juicy. The mashed sweet potatoes were delicious. I can’t have regular mashed potatoes due to my milk sensitivity and I didn’t have a problem with these mashed sweet potatoes. Note: There may have been milk in the recipe, if you have a milk allergy, please check with your server before you order it.
I was impressed with the kids meals too. My kids often have smaller appetites and I like being about to choose a main entree and sides for them. My little guy was happy with Mac and Cheese.
My daughter selected the 4 oz sirloin steak and garlic mashed potatoes as her dinner and my oldest son chose cheeseburger slides and mozzarella sticks as his dinner. I did like that the kids drinks came with free refills (which we did not take advantage of).
We ordered dessert next. My youngest son and daughter got OREO Sundaes ($3.99) and my oldest son got an OREO shake.
I got the Churro S’mores — which were INSANELY GOOD. The churro twists came out warm and full of cinnamon and sugar. They were so good I barely touched the dip, which was toasted marshmallow and chocolate. It was a smaller portion of dessert and I didn’t feel guilty at all.
My husband got the Apple Chimicheesecake – which was cheesecake and caramel apples wrapped in a tortilla shell and lightly fried. Then it was rolled in cinnamon sugar and placed it on a bed of roasted apples. Served with ice cream and topped with caramel sauce.
We definitely were full after our desserts! Our bill for a family of 5, including two drinks for the adults and desserts for all came to $92.94 which was on the much more reasonable side for a restaurant bill.
From now until November 13, customers can enjoy Applebee’s famed wood-fired USDA Choice Top Sirloin steak and two delectable sides for just $9.99! At Applebee’s a quality steak isn’t just reserved for special occasions anymore.
