Kids who live in Manhattan, or are lucky enough to be able to visit once in a while, can get a special treat these days that only children in large cities can enjoy: their very own kid-friendly piano bar! My husband and I love going to piano bars in the city and were happy to discover a piano bar headed by Tina deVaron that our kids can enjoy as well. Complete with impromptu songs, requests and, of course, a sing-a-long, “Tunes with Tina” is sure to be a hit in Manhattan this spring!
Tina, a singer-songwriter and jazz pianist, is a graduate of Princeton University and has played at the Waldorf, developed a Broadway musical and currently plays at the Carlyle. She now also holds interactive family sing-a-longs at the Setai Hotel’s Bar on Fifth called “Tunes With Tina”. I recently spent a fun morning with my family singing along and enjoying great food.
Tina certainly knows her audience and interacts with them with the same ease that her fingers glide on the piano keys. Some of her more memorable songs were: “You are my Sunshine”, “Frere Jacques” in a few different languages (have you ever heard it in Japanese?!) and a beautiful rendition of “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid, which is sure to please any Disney Princess-loving little girl. As part of her repertoire, Tina also treats each child to his or her very own ad-libbed song, which, of course, ended up being a huge hit! Tina is also happy to take requests as well and as a special treat she gives a CD of her original kid-friendly songs to anyone who provides their email address.
The bar itself is very pleasant. We sat on comfortable couches in a sun-drenched room and enjoyed listening to Tina while doing some people-watching through the large glass windows. The food was perfect for brunch, was served promptly and was very good. The children’s portions were large – the same size as the adult portions. Both adult and kid prix-fixe menus offer a main dish as well as a side dish. The kids’ menu had main dishes such as mac & cheese, chicken fingers with fries, grilled cheese sandwiches and pancakes, and side dishes such as bacon, hash browns and fruit kabobs. The adults’ menu included main dishes such as omelets, pancakes, waffles, burgers and salads and side dishes such as french fries, sausage links and steamed asparagus. Coffee, tea and juice are also included in the price.
The “Tunes with Tina” program is also available for birthday parties at the Setai Bar on Fifth and Tina is also available for private bookings, such as children’s events and mom’s night out concerts.
“Tunes with Tina” takes place on Sundays at 11am until May 13th. Shows run approximately 90 minutes with one break in between and include a prix-fixe brunch. You can make reservations at Open Table or by calling The Setai’s Bar on Fifth (212) 695-4005. Prices are $40 per person; $20 per child under 3.
I was not paid for this post. I did attend “Tunes with Tina” on a complimentary basis.

Married to a vegetarian and being a pescetarian herself, this can be quite a challenge. On an ordinary night at her dinner table, you can hear things like “More cauliflower, please!”, “How come I didn’t get a lot of tomato?” and “Fish oil! Yaaaay!”.
