I am 7.5 months pregnant and even though I will have a newborn soon and therefore will have all the reasons in the world to look frumpy — there is really no excuse to look frumpy now. My kids are independent enough to let me have at least a couple of minutes per day for a short beauty routine. At a recent Momtrends event in Manhattan I got the scoop on how to look my best in a relatively short time. (Read more after the jump)
The event took place at Blow, the New York blow dry bar – a salon in Chelsea which also sells its own products and offers education. I got to choose between 3 different hairstyles: a chignon, a ponytail or a glam retro-look. Guess which I chose? Yep, I went straight for the glam. My hairstylist, Renee, had a tough job: to defrizz my ultra-frizzy hair. Amazingly she was so quick and a real pro. Within minutes I had a full head of cascading, glamorous curls and the best part? Renee taught me how to achieve this style at every step of the way!
As you can see in the picture, Renee did an amazing job. I only wish I had time to put on some makeup before I left the house. Luckily, Valerie Monroe, Beauty Director of O, the Oprah Magazine, was there to offer some beauty advice. “A tinted moisturizer, blush, lipgloss and mascara is all you need”, she said. She also recommended using retinoid creams to prevent wrinkles (but I will have to wait until after the delivery as they may be harmful to the baby during pregnancy).
If you want to meet Valerie in person and you happen to be in Manhattan on August 16th, be sure to stop by at the Cellcosmet counter at Saks for primping tips and a special gift from her. Call 866-395-5665 to schedule an appointment. Cost: $30 – all proceeds go to charity.
I also learned about applying makeup from Jessica Foust of Bare Minerals. I learned that their makeup is 100% natural and contains minerals that are mined in exclusive regions across the country. The texture of the makeup is so natural that you feel like you’re bare-faced and the products work for all skin types and conditions.
Last but definitely not least: one must not forget the importance of staying safe in the sun and Sunology has the perfect solution: an all-natural sunblock that’s safe for kids (I have been using it on my kids this summer and so far – no redness!)
Armed with a gorgeous new hairdo, a bag full of makeup and hairstyling samples and invaluable tips, I went home excited to try some new looks. At least while I have some time on my hands…
I was not paid for this post. I did receive a gift bag.
