You are on a tropical island, surrounded by lush foliage, filled with sensational flowers bursting with all colors of the rainbow…no this is not another daydream on a cold New York winter’s day…all it takes is a two-hour drive and you could be attending the Philadelphia International Flower Show where you will be immediately transported to the Hawaiian Islands.
Hailed as “the largest flower show in the world”, the show has been a Philadelphia tradition since 1829. Some 60 professional landscapers, florists and horticultural organizations create breathtaking full-scale garden and floral displays on over 10 acres of exhibit space and compete for awards, such as “Best in Show”. This year’s theme is “Hawaii: Islands of Aloha”. Aside from the magnificent floral displays, there will also be hula music, fire dancing performances, a family lounge with children’s activities, free wine tasting and more! Family day will be held on March 4th & 11th and includes a special visit by the Dr. Seuss character, The Lorax, along with readings of the book and visits from other PBS KIDS Sprout characters. In addition, the show will feature Hawaiian merchandise, crafts and demonstrations. Shopping enthusiasts will enjoy a marketplace that includes food, as well as products for the home and garden. Adjacent to the show there will also be over 140 specialty shops.
