My nine-year-old daughter has been enjoying designing outfits that are completely unique and that showcase her budding fashion skills on The Patchery. She recently designed a sweatshirt all on her own, with no help from me whatsoever. Turns out she learned a lot more than designing clothes – she learned an important lesson about life.
When my daughter selected the Lightweight Hoodie she was debating between two palettes and designed two completely different-looking sweatshirts. Both looked cute, but I had a clear favorite. She was struggling with selecting the one she wanted so I decided to keep my opinion to myself and see what happens. Oftentimes deciding between two options is extremely difficult and my husband and I decided this was a good opportunity for her to take responsibility for her actions. Sure, this is just a sweatshirt, there’s nothing really at stake, but it’s a good exercise in building self-confidence and owning up to your decisions.
After some deliberations my daughter selected the Bloom Organic fabric collections, which features pigs and blackberries. Admittedly, I thought it was a little weird to have those prints on a sweatshirt but I didn’t say anything. My daughter was confident in her choice. When we received it in the mail she was ecstatic and has been wearing the sweatshirt often, especially in the evening when the weather cools down. I am proud of her for making a choice all on her own and to be honest, I think the sweatshirt is stunning and original. Don’t you agree?
