Staples always amazes me with how they handle Back to School. They’re on top of the latest trends and they are always doing cool programs to help out teachers and students.
I love the bright neon colored school supplies (folders, notebooks, backpacks).
How cute is this LEGO lunchbox ($15)?
Plus, Staples always has great tech for students – loved the Chromebook they showed us (perfect for students!).
This season, they are doing a new program called Reward-A-Classroom.
Did you know that in NYC, where I’m based, teachers are only getting $57 dollars this year from the Teachers’ Choice fund to buy classroom essentials. When I taught, from 1999 – 2005, it was around $200, and each year it would decrease (I think it was $150 when I left in 2005). Plus, I always spent at least $300 to $400 of my own money, when I taught. According to the National School Supply and Equipment association, teachers spend an average of $356 a year on supplies and instructional materials. So, the average teacher is spending around $300 of their OWN money to get things for their classroom. And that’s just sad, because we all know that teachers do not get the salary they truly deserve (as someone who has taught and the daughter of a retired teacher, I know this).
To help educators, Staples created the Reward-A-Classroom program. In addition to the 5% in Staples Rewards that all members earn, parents can now earn extra rewards for the teacher of their choice with the Reward A Classroom program.
Here’s what teachers get when parents shop:
- 2% back in rewards on everything, excluding postage, phone/gift cards and savings passes
- 5% back in rewards on every Copy & Print purchase
Teachers can earn up to $50 from as many as 40 parents each year. That’s as much as $2,000 back in rewards every year. So, when if you buy your school supplies at Staples, make sure you ask to sign up for this program!
- Ream paper
- And more!
Available for sale 6/9/13–8/31/13. In store only. While supplies last. Valid for use once per day through 9/21/13.
Thank you to Staples for inviting me to this Back to School Event. I received a swag bag and a gift card for my attendance. As always, all opinions are completely my own.
