Scootbaby Hip Carrier: A Hip Way to Carry Baby

02/20/2012 by The Mama Maven

Since my son is now 22 lbs at 18 months old, my needs for a baby carrier have definitely changed. He’s too heavy to wear on my front, but I can’t seem to manage a back carry without someone helping me position him. I’m more into soft structured carriers, so I wanted to try a hip carrier and the Scootababy Baby Carrier came to mind. You can wear it three ways; as a hip carrier, front carrier, or a back carrier – all hands free! Use it for children from 5 months to 3 years and up to 40 lbs.

Why we liked the Scootababy Baby Carrier ($119):

I’m a plus size mama and the adjustable waist buckle fit me easily – parents of all sizes are going to be happy. It was also really simple to use, I had adjusted to my size and it my baby in it quickly. To use the Scootababy, adjust the strap length around your waist and buckle. Then adjust the shoulder strap length, so the front strap is the only one that needs to be pulled tighter. Pick up your baby and position them over the seat (while holding them), then pull the seat up behind your little one and pull the fleece panel over the baby and your own head. Tighten the fleece panel to make sure it’s spread out evenly over your shoulder (you may have adjust the strap lengths on both sides of the fleece panel to do this). My little man was very comfortable in the hip carry we tried and it’s been ideal for strapping him on quickly, while we run my 4 year old into her school (they don’t like you to take a stroller in). We like that Scootababy folds up small (it can fit in a diaper bag) and comes with a drawstring bag. Plus, the patterns are cute!
