Activision is expanding the reach of the phenomenally popular Skylanders franchise, the #1 kid’s game of 2011, with the debut of Skylanders Cloud Patrol™, an entirely new gaming experience for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users, available exclusively on the iTunes App Store. This is a great App that kids (and adults) of all ages will enjoy. Since I loaded it, my kids have been begging me to give up my iPad and give them a chance to play!
The game is fun and easy to play, with on screen instructions. Skylander characters can be purchased for game consoles such as playstation3, XBOX 360, Wii and Nintendo 3ds. Skylanders are sold in single or 3 to a pack. Each Skylander character comes with a trading card, a sticker card and a web-code card to play online. More than 30 characters from Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure will work in the Skylanders Cloud Patrol game. If you have Skylander figures and the character cards with web-codes, you can enter the codes to add them to your collection on your iPad game. Otherwise, you will have to use some of your virtual currency and gems to unlock the character. And these cost real money. You also can earn coins in the game, and those can be used for power-ups.
This game has a daily element and if you use a character from that element, (such as water, air, fire, magic, earth, undead, tech, life, or wind) bonus coins will be awarded. The coins allow the player to upgrade the strength of the magic items acquired during game play. The game is set in a new region of Skylands, known as Kaos, which the evil minions of Portal Master have overrun. You take command of a sky-ship and use your favorite Skylander character to fight the bad guys. You control the game with touch gestures, such as tap-and-shoot or swiping as you try to defeat the trolls.
The game costs 99 cents, with no free version, but it features the ability to purchase additional goods during the course of game play. If you are a Skylanders fan, you will download this App without thinking twice. The App is affordable at 99 cents (go to iTunes).
