At a time when kids are obsessed with TV shows and hand-held video games, finding the time to pause and just listen to some great music is usually unrealistic. But when that music is not only fun and unique, but also educational, us parents will go through hoops to get a hold of it and have our kids take the time to listen. With “Radio Jungle”, the Pop Ups have created an album that fits the bill and will get your kids up from the couch and dancing right from the start.
The Pop Ups are critically acclaimed duo Jason Rabinowitz and Jacob Stein and their new album, “Radio Jungle” just came out this month. “Radio Jungle” is so unique in that it’s unlike typical “kids music” albums. It boasts different styles of genres that somehow come together into an album filled with upbeat, high-energy music. My kids and I found the songs fun to dance to and catchy and after the second time around I found myself singing along to some of the tunes. Some notable songs are: “Best Fruit”, which talks about the different types of fruit; I loved how it gets kids excited about eating fruit without being preachy. Another favorite is “Feelings Change”, which got my kids to make fun noises. We also loved the educational “Color Wheel”. However, “Box of Crayons” was my kids’ favorite, probably because it was the most catchy and melodic of the tunes. It also happened to be my favorite, probably because the music sounded a little 80’s to me and I always have a soft spot for that.
You can purchase the CD here. Price is $10.
If you happen to be in NYC this weekend be sure to check out The Pop Ups in concert this Sunday at 12:30pm at Littlefield, 622 Degraw Street, Brooklyn, NY 11217. Tickets are $15 per person; $45 per family of 4 (babies are free). To order tickets click here.
Getting kids off the couch and away from their video games is quite a challenge these days. “Radio Jungle” will likely be able to do it. At least for about 40 minutes.
I was not paid for this post. I did receive a copy of the aforementioned CD for review purposes.
