Music and dancing usually go hand-in-hand. When it comes to Rhythmic Circus, live music, beatboxing and tap dancing combine into a melange of enormously talented artists and the result is the show “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now”, currently playing at the New Victory Theater.
The troupe hails from Minneapolis and includes 10 men and 1 woman, all who perform with an instrument: either their voice, the sound of their shoes or an actual musical instrument. I recently saw “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now” and had to fight myself from to getting up on stage and dancing. Their positive, uplifting energy is contagious and envelopes you so that you feel the vibes within you and feel an overwhelming urge to participate. The performance includes a variety of original songs of various genres such as rock, blues and soul. There’s a cute little number that explains how they got started – in study hall class and involves a percussive chair routine (you have to see it to know what I’m talking about). Visually, it was cool to see the different outfits that the performers had for almost every single number. I especially loved their marching band attire in their performance of “Circus”.
Though the show is loud, in-your-face and high-energy, which may not be for everyone, one thing is certain: every single one of the performers was having the time of their lives on stage. “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now” is 60 minutes long and is appropriate for kids ages 6 and up (mostly because it can get really loud and might be too much for younger kids).
Here’s a video from the show:
