I have three kids, which means three different personalities and three different palates. My oldest will try almost anything, while my middle child is super-picky and the baby, at nine months, definitely has a sweet tooth, with a few odd preferences such as smoked herring. As you can imagine, eating out can be tricky, not to mention challenging. So how do you go on vacation with kids that have eclectic food preferences? That’s easy! The Hyatt hotels chain has a menu called “For Kids By Kids” and is tailor-made for children. But it’s not your run-of-the-mill-nuggets-and-fries-type menu. What’s in it? Read and find out! (Read more after the jump)
The “For Kids By Kids” menu was developed with the help of Jr. chef Haile Thomas. Only 12 years old, Haile is an advocate of healthy eating for a healthy lifestyle. She has met with First Lady Michelle Obama a few times and took part in the Kids’ State Dinner last summer as the winner for the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge for the state of Arizona. She is also a Youth Advisory Board member with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and has other ventures as well.
The menu incorporates kids’ favorites, such as pancakes, french toast and fruit smoothies, but also some more unique choices such as scrambled egg-filled tacos, chicken and pineapple skewers (served with brown rice) and Salmon Teriyaki, served with rice noodles and vegetables – this one is Haile’s own recipe!
I recently attended an event at the Hyatt with my kids where we got to sample some of the breakfast items on the menu. My oldest absolutely loved the pancakes, french toast and the tacos with the eggs (she has a very hearty appetite). My middle son was happy munching on a plain taco, with some shredded cheddar cheese and corn on the side. And I was thrilled to see whole wheat, fresh fruit and food that’s a little more sophisticated than cereal with milk.
The nice thing about the menu is that both breakfast and lunch are available all day so your kids can have a large variety to choose from regardless of the time of day. Click here to learn more about the menu and visit the Hyatt Facebook page for a chance to win a stay at one of the Hyatt hotels.
I was not compensated or this post. I received a gift bag.
