Oh, Instant Pot, let me count the ways that I love you. I’ve owned an Instant Pot Electric Pressure Cooker since 2017 when my brother told me all the delicious things he was able to make for himself. I bought the Instant Pot Duo 6 quart and I love it. This is why you need an Instant Pot – I can make yogurt from scratch, whip up delicious soups, stews and chilis, cook corn on the cob, make foolproof rice, make quinoa perfectly, make egg bites and hard boiled eggs, make one pot dinners for my family and so much more. It’s pretty easy but you have to make sure you leave enough time to get your Instant Pot to pressure! I rely on my Instant Pot for almost every meal — some part of it is made in it. It’s easy to use and cleans up so easily. Make sure you have an extra sealing ring on hand and change them out frequently. Foods you may make stay in that seal. Some people soak theirs in vinegar, but I prefer to leave them out on a hook in my kitchen and air them out.

And for the steam vent — you do not have to be afraid of it. When you turn your Instant Pot on, make sure to turn your steam vent to sealing, away from venting. If you are doing a quick release of your Instant Pot, make sure to use a silicone Lobster Claw mitt or a silicone mitt and then step away to let the steam out. I’ve owned my Instant Pot for 4 years and I’ve never had a problem.

Rice!

I’ve mentioned before that I have problems making rice on my stovetop – however, by using the Instant Pot, I can easily make brown rice or my fave, brown basmati rice. This rice comes out so beautifully in your instant pot. Use veggie or chicken broth for extra flavor! All you need is around 30 minutes and two ingredients to get this on your table.

Now that my kids are settled in summer camp, it’s time to start thinking about back-to-school shopping and all the supplies and clothes I will need to get. I usually end up waiting until August and that ends up being somewhat of a disaster; by August a lot of the stores don’t have all of the supplies that are on the list and I end up going to multiple stores, which is a pain. This year I have a plan: I’m going to hit the stores in July, armed with Groupon Coupons!

Practically everyone has heard of Groupon, the site that offers amazing deals on restaurants, vacations, etc. but Groupon’s best-kept secret is free online coupons that you can use at major retailers that you would normally go to anyway. I’m talking places like Home Depot, Bed, Bath & Beyond and Toys R Us. All you need is the coupon on your phone – no need to print it – and just get to your store. 

I love Walmart for school supplies because they have great prices and usually have everything on my supplies list. As of now, Groupon Coupons has 100 Walmart coupons, offering major discounts on everything from clothes and electronics.

I also like to go to Kohl’s for back-to-school clothes and backpacks. I found some great deals on clothes for my kids and I like the quality of the clothes, as well as the backpacks and lunchboxes, especially with my kids’ favorite characters.

Two pairs of sweat pants in pink and purple ($4 each) and a pair of colorful pants for my daughter ($12). Two pairs of jeans for my son ($8 each). Three long-sleeve shirts for my son ($4 each). Total: five pants and three shirts for under $50 – pretty impressive, especially when they’re beautiful and comfortable clothes I know my kids will wear through the winter and beyond.

We just love the glow-in-the-dark graphic tees for boys and moto jackets & jeggings for girls. OshKosh B’gosh’s thoughtful designs, superior materials and construction, and trendy fashions will give kids the confidence to excel school this year.

There was a huge selection and I loved the lighter, brighter colors and fun patterns and prints for kids.

We found a pretty dress — and of course it was pink, as per my daughter’s requirements. This will be perfect for one of our family seders at Passover. My little miss loved this cute light blue bicycle tee. While I wasn’t nuts about this shirt, she loved it. While I love shopping online, my daughter is 7 now and really wants to pick out her own clothes. She is making her own style shine through and I want to encourage this. She’s finally out of size 6’s, so I needed to make sure size 7 would fit her. The skorts were a tad big, but I will tack the waist in tad and it will fit her.

My daughter fell in love with this bright yellow windbreaker with silver hearts (on sale for $24).

I couldn’t resist this sweet baby girl’s dress for my friend’s new baby.

Going back to work recently meant that I need to make sure I look perfect when I leave the house in the mornings. My new best friend? Downey Wrinkle Releaser Plus.

4. As you can see, the tee is so much smoother. If you end up spraying too much on, you may have to wait for it to dry a little.

After using the Downy Wrinkle Releaser Plus, I am a big fan now. Even this morning, I spritzed it on my dress to smooth it out before I left home. TIP: You can also use the Downy Wrinkle Releaser to freshen something up if you haven’t had a chance to get to the dry cleaner (it happens!).

I also spritzed it on my oldest child’s stinky water resistant sport sandals and let them dry overnight (he left it in his backpack over the weekend and they smelled awful). They smelled so much better in the morning.

For the past several years, I’ve enjoyed attending Momtrends‘ Back to School Style Event. This year, I was lucky enough to have a special assignment before the event — I was selected to shop at Ebates and then model my clothes at the event. Now, this completely made my day (okay, year), because I’ve been an Ebates member since 2006.

If you’re not familiar with Ebates, it’s a website where you can get cash back for making purchases. Since my husband and I are pretty frugal, we ALWAYS check Ebates before we buy anything. We’ve scored some really good deals and gotten a nice amount of cash back over the years (we bought our cameras, flat screen tv — major and minor purchases). And yes, I would have bought my new minivan through Ebates if that had been an option! After I make my purchase, it takes around 60 days and then Ebates deposits money right into my paypal account (but you can also have them send you checks instead).

My Assignment

My assignment was to find something fabulous to wear to Momtrends’ Back to School Style Event. I had some freedom. I could buy an outfit, accessories, a back to school outfit for my child… whatever I wanted. For the last few years, I’ve put myself last, so I wanted to buy a couple of dresses for myself. I also planned to buy my little girl a dress for back to school.

I’m plus sized, so I often can’t find things I like (plus I’m not as fashion savvy as I’d like). I was introduced to Sonsi at last September’s Fashion Forward Conference so I chose to shop Sonsi again. They offer beautiful dresses with brands that are figure flattering like SWAK Designs, Kiyonna, IGIGI and more.

I fell in love with two SWAK Designs dresses from Sonsi.com. The Dafni in magenta ($59) and the Essential Tank Dress in black ($59).

However, after I purchased the dresses (through Ebates I got 2.5 % cash back AND $7.95 shipping), I saw that shipping was going to take 4-8 business days and there was no option for quicker shipping. It was already Thursday and the Momtrends’ event was on the next Tuesday. My heart sank.

So, I went to Ebates’ main page again and chose OldNavy.com (which had 2 % cash back and free everyday shipping on $50+), plus I got 25% off when I got onto Old Navy’s main page. I found a dress that I liked — Women’s Plus Cross-Front Jersey Dress. I liked the black (on sale for $25) and the berry (on sale for $27). I decided to buy both. They were simple, but cute.

After I chose the two dresses, I had enough money left over to pick a dress for my 5 1/2 year old daughter. I called her over and she requested a pink dress. Cool Fact: You are able to search girls’ dresses at OldNavy.com by color. Genius!

We chose the Girls Embellished Tiered Sundress (now reduced to $18, I paid $19 last week for it). Since my little gal gets cold, I also chose a 3/4 sleeve black cardigan for her ($11).

Fast forward to the day before the event. The Old Navy dresses showed up. The berry colored dress looked okay– it didn’t really do anything for me. I tried on the same dress in black and it looked amazing (go figure).

The Event:

I had a blast at Momtrends’ Back to School Style Event. I had such a great time that I didn’t actually get a good picture of myself!
