Last week I wrote about Shine On Saturdays at GapKids. This past Saturday, my daughter and I went to the GapKids location on 85th St. and 3rd Avenue to participate in the Shine On Saturday Art Projects. This activity was Journal Making. (Read More after the jump).
We went down to the children’s section on the lower level. There were several tables (kid-sized) with chairs and a larger table full of journal-making materials. She had been coveting her older brother’s notebook, so she was thrilled with the activity. Designed by Merrilee Liddiard of Mer Mag, she made a journal with construction paper as a cover and graph paper inside. Using colored plastic tape, stickers, sticky jewels and magic; she decorated her journal and then drew in it. She had a sense of pride in what she was creating. The staff helped her and gave her suggestions on how to use the materials.
Go to GapKids this month for special Shine On Saturdays Events. These fun projects were inspired by GapKids and babyGap’s fall collection, including their fab new 1969 denim: Jewel Box Skinnies for girls, which are stretchy, skinny jeans made in a bright colors and Action Stretch Denim for boys (this denim can really move!)
