For the past month, I’ve been testing out the Meaningful Beauty Skincare System. In my first post, I shared my first impressions. There are several products in the system. I’ll admit it’s more than I ever typically used and I was a little intimidated. I was worried about how I’d remember what to use and when to use it.

However, I don’t have to remember it. There is a handy waterproof chart that I keep in my bathroom, right next to my mirror. Here’s the AM side.

My favorite products were the Wrinkle Smoothing Capsules and the Glowing Serum.

Did you know that you need to feed your skin, just like you feed your body? Any skincare that you choose should keep it protected from damaging free radicals and harsh environmental factors (example being the winter we’re in right now). My Thoughts:
Did I see a difference in my skin? Yes, I actually did. My skin looks healthier overall and much more hydrated. I now moisturize with several of the Meaningful Beauty products twice a day and I barely moisturized even once a day before, so I am pretty pleased with this system. I can actually skip makeup most days (ie. powder or foundation) if I am just going about my day, working at home or being with the kids. . Seriously. No makeup. For a gal that just turned 45, that really impressed me. I love the skin polishing brush too. It actually felt good to really clean my face and I think it also helped to make my skin better. What I would like to check out next is something to get ride of a sunspot on my left cheek. It is a little lighter, but I wasn’t sent a product that specifically tackled that and I am wondering if that would have helped it.

I’m about to turn 50 and one of the things that really bothers me is my thinning hair. It first started thinning when I was post-partum with my first child, at age 34, and it’s only gotten worse, much to my chagrin. I think A Fool’s Paradise is a high caliber page turner that grabbed me from the first word — and this would make a great movie!

Having a custom hair color made from eSalon was the last thing in my box. eSalon believes that all people deserve the best hair color and they can create their custom color for you. As I’ve gotten older, my hair has gotten darker. I don’t have a lot of grey, but the few strands I have have been multiplying quickly. So this is what I was working with – clearly I needed to do something.

The first thing I did was to section my hair and then apply the eSalon Stain Guard along my hairline.

Then I applied the color fill in the dark brown-gold color my stylist sent me to cover my brassy blond ends.

That stayed in for around 5 minutes and then I hopped into the shower real quick and rinsed that out.

Then I applied the all over dark brown-gold color formatted for me all over my hair, left that on for 15 minutes.

I took that remaining color and added some water to the bottle, shook it and then went back in the shower, and added that to blend my hair color. I let that sit for around 2-3 minutes and then I washed my hair with the Alterna Caviar Shampoo and Conditioner that was in my box. It smelled amazing and after my shower, so did my hair. No nasty chemical smells (however, still keep it clear of your eyes).

My hair looked wonderful and was so soft. This was a Demi-Permanent  color so it will last for 24 washes. Then I need to decide if I want to keep in the same color family or if I want to change things up.

 I tried two of the gold products – the soft gels and balm, and one of the green products, the CBD Oil Spray in Peppermint (#19), CBD Gold Softgels (17.95) and the CBD Oil Balm in Extra Strength ($51).

Does it work? I found that it did work. And I liked how it worked. The CBD Oil Spray had a nice peppermint taste and no aftertaste (the other brand that I tried had that aftertaste). I use CBD Oil (the spray or the soft gels) anytime I don’t feel 100% well or when I need to concentrate. I had a toothache the other night and the only thing I used was the CBD Oil. It stopped my pain. I was so surprised. Remember in “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” when the father keeps putting that cleaning spray on everything and it works for him? I feel like that. I used the balm today on a rash and I already see signs of it clearing up. So — yes, I would absolutely recommend it. Just remember this was my personal experience and is not meant to give advice to anyone. But yes, I believe that this CBD Oil works and I’m excited to see some long term use with it.

I tried out the Everyday Plus in MCT oil in the Mint Chocolate Flavor. It’s a hemp extract oil and it offers beneficial botanicals to help support skin health. It’s non-GMO, preservative free, gluten free, cruelty-free and packaged in BPA-free containers.

I tested out Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream and Olay Eyes Ultimate Eye Cream. I really liked that this simple and effective skin care regimen delivered almost immediate results. It was really easy to incorporate into my busy working mom life.

Here I am on day 1. My moment in the mirror wasn’t pretty to me. I saw more lines and there are breakouts. I felt like I was drowning in my personal life and it showed in my face.

As a mom of a young daughter, it’s really important for me to make sure I help her to build her self-esteem. I’ve suffered from self-esteem issues in my own life. I was teased and bullied as a child up to my late teens, both at school, hebrew school, and at home by my father. And I let another relative make me feel like I was nothing. While I don’t want to be too dramatic; I vowed that I would not let my own children feel that way. I worry about my daughter more than my sons, because she is more sensitive. They really don’t care what others think about them, but my daughter cares too much. And she’s exactly like me. She’s almost 9 and such a sunny, bright child. She loves fiercely and is excited about everything. Her brothers are crazy about her and so are her dad and I. I want to make sure she feels supported and valued. We teach her to be kind to other children and to make sure that she’s never the bully. Since she’s such a sweetheart, we don’t have to worry that she is.

How do we try to encourage her? By supporting things she enjoys like fashion design. My daughter wants to be a fashion designer when she grows up. We buy her books about fashion and read them to hear (it’s adorable when my husband reads about Dior to her), we make sure she has sketch pads and gel pencils, my mother has taught her some basics of sewing (she’s going to teach her how to make a skirt) and we also try let her express herself with her clothes. She put this look together herself, with her late great grandmother’s faux pearls, a maxi skirt, two tank tops, and a scarf my husband got in Chinatown in San Francisco.

Then I run it through what I want to braid. It helps me to get a better grip on her hair to braid it.

I take the little braid I made with her long bangs and work it into her braid. I secure it with an elastic and make sure there are no flyaways.

How adorable is my little gal?

And then I start the second faux french braid. Once again I add the SoCozy Detangler.

Then I make the second little braid.

Voila! Two faux french braids.

However, my daughter wanted to put the braids together as one, so I took a hair elastic and tied them together.

After three kids and being in my mid-forties, I don’t look like I used to. While getting enough sleep, eating healthy, and exercising helps, there are still things I’m not happy with. Like the deeper lines and wrinkles around my nose and mouth. My boobs aren’t the way they used to be either – breastfeeding three kids and gravity contributed to that. I was curious about getting a cosmetic procedure (or two), so when I was offered the chance to speak to Pasadena-based plastic surgeon Dr. Max Lehfeldt and talk about options, I just had to start the discussion.

While I am not sure if I would do anything, I don’t know enough about this to make an informed decision. So I sat down with Dr. Lehfeldt, who was patient and he calmly answered my many questions.

Dr. Lehfeldt told me that a lot of his patients that are moms feel this way, they want to change things, but aren’t sure what to do. They’ve given so much to their families, but it’s their turn now. It’s common for women to see a change in their body after having kids, especially their breasts.¹ Deflated breasts after having children is common and research shows that breastfeeding isn’t the cause. Sagging is largely determined by weight loss, aging, breast size, and how many times you’ve been pregnant.^1,2

Another area where changes take place is the belly. After pregnancy, the tissue, muscle, and skin on your abdomen can be too weak and stretched out to tighten on its own—no matter how much you diet and exercise.³ Some moms opt for a tummy tuck to address loose skin after pregnancy, but there are non-surgical body contouring options as well.

In addition to talking about breast augmentation and  tummy tucks, he also talked about ways women can address deep facial lines and wrinkles with fillers (like JUVÉDERM® XC). He mentioned Allergan’s Natrelle® breast implants and JUVÉDERM® XC as treatment options plastic surgeons can use to address women’s specific needs.

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, top surgical and nonsurgical procedures in 2015 included breast augmentation and facial injectable treatments, such as the products in the JUVÉDERM® collection of fillers.⁴

If you have your implants removed and not replaced, you may experience unacceptable dimpling, puckering, wrinkling, or other cosmetic changes of the breast, which may be permanent. Breast implants may affect your ability to produce milk for breastfeeding. Silicone-filled implants may rupture without symptoms. You should have MRI examinations 3 years after surgery and then every 2 years thereafter in order to detect ruptures.

What should I tell my doctor?

Tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:  autoimmune diseases, a weakened immune system, planned radiation therapy to the breast or planned chemotherapy following breast implant placement, conditions/medications that interfere with wound healing and blood clotting, reduced blood supply to breast tissue or a clinical diagnosis of depression, other mental health disorders, body dysmorphic disorder or eating disorders.

What are some complications with breast implants?

Key complications are reoperation, implant removal with or without replacement, implant rupture with silicone-filled implants,

implant deflation with saline-filled implants, and severe capsular contracture (severe scar tissue around the implant). Talk to your doctor about other complications.

What are possible side effects?

The most common side effects included tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching. With JUVÉDERM® XC and JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC injectable gels, most side effects were mild or moderate and lasted 14 days or less. For JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC, most side effects were moderate (uncomfortable) and lasted 2 to 4 weeks. For JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC, most side effects were mild or moderate and lasted 30 days or less.

One of the risks with using these products is unintentional injection into a blood vessel, and, while rare, the complications can be serious and may be permanent. These complications, which have been reported for facial injections, can include vision abnormalities, blindness, stroke, temporary scabs, or permanent scarring.

As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection.

After taking it out of the box, I was even more skeptical. It looked like a brush and it was heavy. So I decided to put it to the test. I read the instructions, washed my hair, and quickly blew it dry (without styling it). Which was kind of against everything I usually do. But, I was committed to testing it out for you, dear readers. According to the directions, you have to use it on clean, dry hair.

How to Use Simply Straight, the Ceramic Hair Straightening Brush

1. Hold down the power button to start it.
2. Do not use on wet hair. Hair must be clean, dry and free of hair products before using Simply Straight.
3. Do not use on tangled hair – Simply Straight does not use tangles or knots. Make sure to brush with your regular brush before use.

This is me with dry hair. I did not scrunch it, I did not use a brush to curl it. It’s a little too frizzy for my liking here.

I plugged in the Simply Straight Brush and used the plus button to set it to 450 degrees. It warmed up really quickly, which really pleased me, and I started brushing my hair to straighten it. That’s all you do — you brush your hair! Be careful, because after the brush touches it, it will be hot! As in, be careful! I did try to style my hair with the brush. My hair is cut in layers and super straight hair is not a good look on me, but straighter hair that is curled under a little is what I usually do. I do like some height on my hair in the front, I was able to get sleek, but it was a little flat on top.

This new tool combines the benefits of a flat iron straighter with the ease of using a comb. It was pretty simple to use and I couldn’t believe that it worked. And while I wished I could have used it on my wet hair, it did work really quickly on my dry hair to straighten it. I would absolutely recommend it. My husband LOVED my sleek, straight hair.

This will be my go-to styling tool for wherever my summer adventures take me.

As a recent BIG birthday loomed, I began to realize that it was time to get some sort of a regimen for my skin started. The box had information about the products and the way they are supposed to be used. There’s even a helpful waterproof chart included to help with product order application. Which made it a little less fearsome. I am excited to start using Meaningful Beauty!

A skin polishing brush with two extra heads was included, to use with the Skin Softening Cleanser. It offers 360 degree rotation and variable speeds. I’ve never actually used a skin polishing brush, so I was pretty excited that this was included. The Skin Softening Cleanser was dense and didn’t bubble up like a heavy soap — which was great because I am a bit sensory and hate lots of bubbles on my face. I liked the smell and texture – which was light. In fact, I was pleased that all the products had a light and pleasant scent. The Skin Brightening Décolleté and Neck Treatment Broad Spectrum SPF 15 had the consistency of sunscreen, but wasn’t very thick.

The Wrinkle Smoothing Capsules come in a jar (7 came in this). I broke one open to apply – it has a pleasant smell and texture. One capsule is supposed to be the amount you need.

March is finally here and although there’s still snow,  the temps are starting to rise. The black clay is real clay and won’t stain your clothes or anything else. If you happen to spill some it will come right off. So that night, I had come from a long day at work and my hair was so blah. I was excited to see how I could make Secret Extensions work even better for me. At this event, I got some one on one time with stylists at the fab Paul Labrecque Salon & Spa on the Upper East Side.

We got to pick a style and were given Hot Buns and Hot Designs to take home. While I was being styled, I asked my stylist for some tips.

Tips for Rocking Your Secret Extensions Look

1. You may want to use at least two Secret Extensions, three if you really want to boost your locks. I looked good with two, but I looked better with three.

2. If you want to trim your Secret Extensions slightly, twist sections of it and use your scissor edge as a razor — this will create a layered look, to blend in with shorter hair. Your hairstylist should be able to do it, if you are more comfortable with that.

3. If you have highlighted hair (like I do) you can match a couple of tones in your hair. The Dark Golden Blonde Secret Extension and Dark Blonde Secret Extension worked well with my hair shade. In fact, I couldn’t believe how well it matched.

4. If your hair is layered, Secret Extensions will blend in very well. However, my hair is in more of a blunt cut. But, I can still make it work by using a curling iron to create spiral curls, rock a side ponytail, or use a clip with a half up and half down style. My Secret Extensions were trimmed in a layered style, which made it blend it with my real hair very well.

5. Have fun with it. I wear Secret Extensions out on Date Night or when I go out with my friends. I love that I can quickly change my look and get those long locks (without commitment).

This year, with going back to work and my kids all in school(ages 4, 6 1/2, and almost 9), it’s time for me to really take care of myself. And that also involves looking good. I haven’t been happy with my hair for a while — I used to have very thick hair and after giving birth three times, it’s much thinner than I’d like. I was asked to try out Secret Extensions and was thrilled by the idea.

This is how they work:

Take them out of the package (you may want to use 1, 2 or even 3 sets.). Two sets were right for me. My hair is brown, but highlighted blonde. The dark blonde and dark golden blonde matched my color exactly. I also have brown on hand (for when I go a little darker in winter).

They slip on just like a headband (it’s a clear string) and then you pull your hair over it to make it blend together. That’s it. No clips, you don’t sew them in. It seriously takes a second.

Since my hair is shorter, I curled my hair in the back and pinned it up on the sides for a fun look. I plan to cut them a little bit and use them for for volume, than for length.

Overall, I was really pleased with Secret Extensions. They were easy to use, matched my hair color, and made me look great. Plus, they were easy to take on and off, and to maintain. You can curl or style the extensions. The Secret Extensions are 16 inches long. You can find them on Amazon.
