We’re a very low-tech family and the kids are used to little or no screen time, especially during the week, but we’re big fans of music of all types and I especially appreciate the power of music to soothe or energize or even make you think. I recently got the chance to review two new music albums made especially for kids that I’m excited to share. We’re also very happy to host a giveaway – one lucky winner will win both albums!
Everyone knows Raffi, one of the most popular and best-selling children’s entertainer in the world – generations of kids have grown up listening to his famous, super-catchy songs, such as Baby Beluga, Down By The Bay and Bananaphone. His newest album is Best of Raffi – a collection of his greatest hits spanning his forty year career and includes the songs mentioned above, plus oldies but goodies, such as Day O and Apples and Bananas. If you’re a fan of Raffi you’ll appreciate this wonderful collection of timeless songs and if your kids are not yet familiar with Raffi this is a perfect introduction album to get them into the music. I can’t imagine anyone not loving Raffi’s soothing voice and meaningful lyrics that kids can relate to. Click here to preorder Best of Raffi ($9.99), available February 10th at Target. Keep On is a new album by duo Little Miss Ann and Amy D. It’s aimed for kids but has a distinct folksy sound that appeals to adults as well. My ten-year-old daughter who is really into Adele and Taylor Swift said it best when she noted that if the lyrics were not aimed towards younger kids, older kids and even adults would love this album because a lot of the songs have a “grownup” sound she loves. She is talking about the sophisticated sound to the album and the catchy music. My kids and I especially loved The Senses Song, Tiptoe Through the Tulips and The 606. Click here to preorder the album ($9.49), available February 17th. For shows in NYC and Chicago click here.
